Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, we strive to empower individuals and communities to lead healthier lives, while providing the tools, support and resources needed to thrive.

Dr. Shelby

Shelby Health Equity Advocates' Founder

Dr. Alicia Shelby, MD, is the founder of Shelby Health Equity Advocates, and the Medical Director and Section Chair of the Emergency Department at St. Anne Mercy in Toledo, Ohio. In her previous role, Shelby is noted as the first Black Assistant Medical Director of the Emergency Department at St. Anne Mercy Hospital. Shelby also opened the door for countless other underrepresented medical professionals to walk through, as she was also the first Black Female Assistant Medical Director of the Emergency Department at UH Bedford Hospital in Bedford, Ohio and first Black Female in the Emergency Medical Residency at Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio. Dr. Shelby is a trailblazer for change, and deeply committed to equitable, healthier cities.
